What is Midwest Mission Serving September?
Midwest Mission Serving September is a month dedicated to service! You can reinvigorate your community by getting them excited about serving and making a difference around the world and around the corner. Join people around the Midwest for a month of serving!

You and your church are relevant to God's Great Commission. Midwest Mission helps people in their times of crisis, but we also use our mission to revitalize congregations through service. We have easy and accessible opportunities to show God's love in a practical way and get people involved who may or may not know Jesus personally. This is a great opportunity for you and your congregation to learn about our hands-on activities and how to implement them right where you are.
How You Can Participate:
​1. Collect items and bring them to a Permanent Collection Site near you
Your church or group can host a big collection for Midwest Mission. Ask people to bring to a dedicated collection point, and then bring the items to a Permanent Collection Site near you at your convenience.

2. Assemble Kits
During September, ask participants to buy items for a certain kit, then on chosen date, assemble the kits with your group!

Volunteer at a Blessing Bag Pack at Midwest Mission
Midwest Mission is hosting a Blessing Bag Pack at both the Pawnee, IL location and Jefferson, IA location on September 24-25. Help us meet our goal of packing 12,000 bags to feed 72,000 people around the world.​

Available shifts:
Thursday, September 24
9:00am-11:00am
1:00pm-3:00pm
5:00pm-7:00pm
Friday, September 25
9:00am-11:00am
1:00pm-3:00pm (Illinois only)

Important to know:

Volunteers must be at least 11 years old.

Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult and have a signed parental waiver.

Closed-toe shoes are required.
-
Hairnets, beard nets, and gloves will be provided.
-
Four seated volunteer positions are available on every packing line.

Serving Idea: Make Student Kits with Your Community!
1. Collect Supplies
Have your community collect the individual items for the Student Kit and bring them to your collection point. Start collecting when school supplies go on sale!

You also might want to have seamstresses make one-handled bags. (Find the pattern here.) If you do not have someone to make one-handled bags, you can place the items in grocery sacks, and we will put them into one-handled bags at Midwest Mission.
*Idea: Some churches have put one-handled bags, or grocery sacks, on their church pews with the shopping list inside for people to take home, fill up, and bring back.
2. Assemble the Kits
Now that you have the supplies, set up an Assembly Day! Get smaller groups, or even your entire congregation together and pack the supplies into Student Kits.

3. Deliver the Kits
Once the Kits are assembled, you are ready to deliver! You can take the Kits to Midwest Mission (in Illinois or Iowa), or a Permanent Collection Site near you.

*If you have leftover supplies that did not fit into the Kits, you can deliver those as well!
4. Impact Lives!
Your Student Kits are going to make a big impact in the world. They will help facilitate a great learning environment for children in developing countries, who cannot afford school supplies.

Because of you, students will have the supplies they need when they go back to school.
