On Monday, June 23, Cepudo, our partner organization in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, held an inauguration for the 252nd school they’ve constructed.
In Honduras, and many other countries in the developing world, education is not a priority. There are many different reasons for this. Some children have to work at a young age to support their family, others have to take care of their family, and others just don’t have access to a school.
In the United States, it is required for children to attend school, but there is not the same level of priority given to education in Honduras. Because of this, as children grow, they cannot go on to get jobs that require a strong education — not even a college education, just simply a high school level of learning.
But the ability to get an education changes lives. It breaks them from the cycle of poverty, and gives so many opportunities for their future — further studies, better-paying jobs, owning a business, just to name a few.
Because Cepudo has an emphasis on education, just like we do at Midwest Mission, they make it a priority to build good learning environments around the country. Each school that is constructed means more children will have access to life-changing opportunities.
Cepudo builds the schools and works with the staff and local families. Then, their partners help fill the school with equipment and tools to make a great learning environment.
Food For The Poor makes sure there is clean, running water. Then, they connect with us to get Midwest Mission desks and Student Kits into the schools. This way, all of the children are equipped with the proper tools to begin learning!
Because of the gifts you’ve given, the time you’ve spent volunteering, and the prayers you pray, so many children have life-changing opportunities because of the learning environment we are able to help create. Thank you for your generosity!
