Exciting Milestone: Midwest Mission Ships 400 Desks and Chairs Directly from Indiana School

On Friday, July 31, Midwest Mission celebrated an exciting milestone by completing its first international shipment loaded entirely from a remote location.

Western School Corporation in Russiaville, Indiana, recently replaced classroom furniture and was looking for a new home for approximately 400 desks and chairs. At the same time, Midwest Mission's warehouse was temporarily at capacity as work continues to expand outdoor storage space.

Rather than letting those challenges stand in the way, Midwest Mission and Western School Corporation found a creative solution.

Chantel Corrie, Executive Director, and Melissa Brookens, Director of Missions, worked with the school corporation to coordinate loading the shipping container directly at the school. The furniture never had to travel through Midwest Mission's warehouse before beginning its journey to Haiti.

"We're always looking for opportunities to be good stewards of the donations entrusted to us," said Chantel Corrie, Executive Director of Midwest Mission. "Being able to load this container directly in Indiana is an exciting opportunity. It means these desks and chairs can begin serving students in Haiti sooner while allowing us to use our warehouse space and transportation resources as efficiently as possible."

The furniture will help equip a new school being built in Haiti by Midwest Mission's partner, Food For The Poor, giving students a welcoming place to learn, grow, and build their futures.

Western School Corporation's generous donation ensures these desks and chairs will continue serving students for years to come, this time in classrooms across the globe.

"This shipment is a wonderful example of what can happen when schools and communities work together," Corrie said. "Resources that are no longer needed in one classroom can become an incredible blessing in another."

This shipment also highlights a growing need. Food For The Poor is building new schools throughout Central America and the Caribbean, and quality used school furniture is in high demand.  If a school in your community is replacing desks and chairs, Midwest Mission may be able to give them a second life in a classroom where they are urgently needed.

Serving September: One Month Away!

In one month, people across the Midwest will be serving with their churches, small groups, businesses, and families for a common goal: putting faith and love into action through practical acts of service.
