Shipment day is always exciting, but when there are two shipments in two days, the excitement is hard to contain! These shipments are more than containers filled with supplies. They are the physical representation of hope and empowerment traveling across the ocean and into the hands of people who need help most.

On Tuesday, October 6, we sent our 33rd international shipment, but its final destination is a little different than normal. This shipment is headed to Coconut Creek, Florida, where our partner, Food For The Poor, has its U.S. warehouse. From there, the shipment will be divided among several shipments headed to Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, and Jamaica.

Why?

Because this was an Angels of Hope Shipment! Angels of Hope is a program of Food For The Poor that seeks to meet the needs of children’s homes in the Caribbean and Latin America. Midwest Mission partners with this program by sending shipments specifically for these homes. They request our Student Kits, Home Care Kits, Bed Packs and Cover Them With Love Quilts, Bikes, and toys (donated in bulk, new from corporate donors).

Many of the children come to these homes with nothing, and the homes don’t have a lot either. By meeting the needs of these children, they feel the love of people they might never meet. And, their lives are changed for the better.

This shipment contained:

  • 3,360 Student Kits

  • 180 Bed Packs and Cover Them With Love Quilts

  • 360 Home Care Kits

  • 45 Twin Mattresses

  • 36 Bikes

  • More than 2,000 toys

Value: $91,834.00 of humanitarian aid

The next day, we were ready for the next shipment.

On Wednesday, October 7, the Operations Team worked hard to load the 34th international shipment of the year, heading to Honduras. This shipment will be distributed to a variety of organizations, including fire departments across Honduras.

Fire jackets, pants, air tanks and backpacks, boots, helmets, gloves, hoses, and fans will be delivered to departments that have nothing. And by nothing, we truly mean nothing. They fight fires without fireproof clothing. They go into flames without boots or gloves.

The donated fire gear means the difference between life and death for the victims of fires and fire fighters.

This shipment also included:

  • 4,800 Blessing Bags that will feed 28,800 People

  • 560 Student Kits

  • 37 Walkers

  • 18 Sewing Machines

  • 560 Personal Dignity Kits

  • 560 Feminine Hygiene Kits

  • 15 Bikes

  • 27 Tarps

  • 2  School Desks

  • 88 Kids chairs

  • 1 Pallet of tools

Weight: 19,472 lbs

Value: $188,896.00

We talk about fire gear a lot, because it’s extremely important and needed. Midwest Mission is the only organization that works with Food For The Poor that sends fire gear. The departments are relying on us to get them gear that will keep their fire fighters safe.

That’s why this shipment is not just life-changing; it’s also life-saving. You can help save more lives by contacting your local fire department and asking if they have any unused gear they would like to donate. Learn more here.

Sewing With A Purpose: Join us for a Sewing Retreat

There’s something special about sitting around a table with other people who love to sew, and knowing that what you’re making will make a difference in someone’s life.

This fall, Midwest Mission is hosting two Sewing Retreats, giving sewists in different parts of the Midwest an opportunity to gather, learn, and create with a purpose.

Sewists are invited to gather for three days of sewing, fellowship, worship, and service. Participants will create hand-sewn items for Midwest Mission Feminine Hygiene and Layette Kits, which provide practical resources, dignity, and hope to families around the world.

Sewing kits will be pre-cut and ready to go, and experienced sewists will be available to provide instruction and encouragement. You don't have to be an expert — you simply need a willingness to serve and a desire to put your sewing skills to work.

The retreats are free to participants, with free-will donations accepted to help cover event costs. Lodging is not included, so participants will make their own lodging arrangements.

Come sew with us and see how you can show God’s love in a practical way through sewing!
