Layette Kits Distributed in Belize

May 2nd 2025, Newsletter

Seed of Life, in Benque, Belize, recently received Layette Kits to give to new mothers in their community. Seed of Life is a resource center, offering hope and love to pregnant women, many living in poverty. They were able to give Layette Kits to women who attended their classes.

“We are especially grateful for the reusable diapers and pins,” Gianna Marie Short, Seed of Life’s director said. “The diapers are beautiful and perfect for Belize’s hot weather.”

“This baby came to our office many times before she was born! Each mother went through stages in her coming to know us. At first, they were worried about having another child, how to care for other children as well as the new one. Later, as the child grew, the mother's love grew to match, and she was happier and happier as they continued to visit us. It was a privilege to provide a space for them to rest on their journey, listen to their needs and worries, and help where we could.”

They were so thankful to give these beautiful Layette Kits to the new mothers. The Layette Kit, a baby shower in a bundle as some call it, is the perfect gift to a family that has little. The reusable diapers and pins, the onesies and gown, washcloth, and sweater are all blessings.

Many of the items in Layette Kits are handmade! If you (or someone you know) sews, knits, or crochets, there is a project for you. Visit midwestmission.org/patterns and scroll down to the Layette Kit to see all that you can make!

Shipment of Blessing Bags to El Salvador

On Wednesday, April 30, another shipment of Blessing Bags left the building! Because of the generosity of donors and volunteers, we had enough meals to fill another 20-foot container. As we talked about in last week’s newsletter, it is more vital than ever that we continue to pack Rice and Soy Blessing Bags, so that people in need can have their hunger needs met. To learn more about the crisis, you can read last week’s newsletter here.

Wednesday’s shipment contained:

  • 18,000 Rice and Soy Blessing Bags that will feed 108,000 people

  • 960 puzzles (donated by an anonymous corporate donor)

The value of this shipment was $48,960.00

Thank you to everyone who contributed by packing meals, donating towards the cause, or praying for people who are in need. We are thankful that God has his hand in these shipments, every step of the way!
