November 15th, 2024 Newsletter
Earlier this year, we began partnering with Global Citizen USA, after our long-time partner, North Star Foundation, connected our two organizations.
Global Citizen USA works in all areas of the world. From U.S. Disaster Relief to international work, we align on a lot of our goals and methods, each doing our part to meet the needs of people in crisis.
Before this most recent shipment, we had helped coordinate a shipment of water from Midwest Food Bank to Global Citizen USA, who was on the ground in North Carolina after Hurricane Helene. And, a few months ago, we worked with them to provide needed supplies at the Mexico and Texas border.
This week, we were excited to partner with them once again! Global Citizen USA specializes in transporting and distributing supplies to organizations and individuals. They just need the stuff to send! That’s where Midwest Mission comes in. We do what we do best – turning resources into humanitarian aid – and let them do what they do best – distributing the items!
On Wednesday, November 13, bright and early in the morning, a shipment was loaded and sent out that will help people in Patzcuaro, Michoacan, Mexico. The truck will arrive at Global Citizen’s warehouse in Montgomery, IL, where the supplies will then be put on several different containers that will head to Mexico.
This shipment contained:
1,190 Student Kits
410 Cover Them With Love Quilts
33 Bikes
5 Wheelchairs
118 Pillowcase Dresses
77 Sleeping Mats
New clothing donated by the NICE Foundation
Blankets
The items weighed 24,447 lbs and the value of the supplies was $154,243.00.
We are blessed by all of our partners, and are especially grateful for our partners who connect us with others! When we each do our specialized part, we can make a greater impact in the world, in Christ’s name.
New Sewing Room at Midwest Mission
For several years, many volunteers have expressed their desire to sew during their time volunteering at Midwest Mission. But, because of a lack of space and because a lot of effort had to go into setting out all of the supplies and cleaning it up again so the space could be used for other things, it just hadn’t been possible for many years.
There are so many beautiful handmade items that are donated to us that people work on at home. Some go into Kits, some get sent on their own, and they are all needed and special in their own way! But recently, we’ve been in need of more sewn items than were coming in. We’ve been short on receiving blankets and day and night pads for a while.
The need for more sewn items, paired with a space in the warehouse that became available and the desire from volunteers to sew — this was the perfect recipe for creating a dedicated sewing area!
With that being said….
Welcome to our new Sewing Room at Midwest Mission in Pawnee, IL!
The next time you volunteer, you are welcome to come in and sew your heart out! From blankets to pads to quilts and more, there are unlimited projects to work on.
We are excited to see just how much volunteers enjoy the space, and to see the fruits of all your hard work, as we will have more items to send to people in need.
